Are you looking for a job? If yes then you will need to get your checklist ready and on top of that checklist should be a resume. A resume or CV is a job search document outlining individuals career information that includes their education, skills and experience. A good resume should outline your skills, the tasks you did and the accomplishments you achieved while performing those tasks. Consider a resume your marketing tool as a job seeker and with that in mind, its important that the resume is clear, precise but still capable of marketing you as a professional by including all the important aspects of your profession.

This is one aspect that most job seekers ignore or take lightly but one that can cause so much harm on their job search. I understand that ”fancy” email address may be your thing but remember as a job seeker you are a brand and as a brand, you need to present yourself in the best way possible.

Some recognized and highly used email service providers are Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, iCloud, Mail.com, Microsoft Office 365 and Google Apps for Business. Email addresses with either your full or initial names are considered appropriate as opposed to the ones with pet names. For example Samuel Paul could be spaul@gmail.com or samuelpaul@gmail.com as opposed to sexypaul@gmail.com

Demonstrate your skills and achievements as quickly and effectively
The resume skills and achievements section gives the job seeker an opportunity to expand upon their abilities and achievements that are very specific to their profession or role they are applying for. This is another opportunity for a job seeker to market themselves skills and achievements wise thus a job seeker should invest time, confidence and accuracy in creating this part of the resume. The faster the job seeker displays this information on the resume, the better.

Customize every resume to match every specific role
This is the part that most job seekers hate but it is the holy grail of job applications. Gone are the days when one resume could impress any recruiter in any industry. Most recruiters expect that a job seeker present to them what they are looking for and this is done by making sure that the information on the resume matches the skill set and the requirements on the job post. Think of it as going to buy books on a bookstore and finding books or books related products sold in there as opposed to finding deli products being sold at the bookstore. Its the matching deal here and nothing less.
